Password manager have become very common in recent times. Since there are a number of different accounts, using a password manager makes life so easy. But you have to get a third party app for that purpose. With google chrome you get inbuilt password manager. You might at some point want to revisit the login ids and passwords associated to them. So here is how you download, export and import google chrome passwords.

Now before we even get started, let me tell you that this is not a security issue for Google. They have put all the considerations into it already. Also, this feature is still under testing and not yet public, that is, this is available to only selected people. But don’t worry, it is an easy journey. Just keep following!

Exporting/downloading passwords

Step 1 : download a Chrome Dev Channel release for your device.

Step 2 : Once you are on a Chrome Dev Channel release, go to Settings>manage password>Export and click export passwords.

Step 3 : Input your system password if prompted. And voila! You are done! You’ll be able to download a csv file

In similar manner, you can even import accounts and passwords to your chrome.

Using Password export feature in chrome

There is just 2 extra steps that you need to follow to be able to export passwords without the hassle of installing a Chrome Dev Channel release

Step 1 : Type chrome://flags in the address bar and hit enter.

Step 2 : Enable #password-export and #password-import flags.

After following the above steps, relaunch your chrome and follow the steps just as before

Some warning I might give you

Don’t keep the csv file on your disk for too long as it contains all the ids and passwords from your chrome export in plain text format. Anyone will be able to access this text if they get their hands on this file.
