Best Apps For Windows 10

There is no shortage of apps when it comes to windows but finding fresh apps isn’t that easy. So here is a list of Best new apps for Windows 10. A spoiler alert, they are all free.

Franz

The first app we have here is Franz, cool name by the way. What is lets you do is group a range of messaging apps like Facebook, WhatsApp slack, Gmail into one single screen. so instead of opening 5 applications, you just have to open one. with all my apps inside it. What I really like about the app, apart from it being free, is that the interface of the services running inside it is the same. And you have to spend zero time to understand the interface as it is highly user-friendly.

Also, if you are wondering, no it doesn’t see what you send or receive. The carrier though, Franz, will nudge you time to time to upgrade to the premium version by making you wait for a few seconds from time to time. Of course, you get rid of this by buying a 4 Euro subscription.

Wox

Consider Wox as spotlight alternative for windows, i.e, an app launcher to help you quickly find files and folders. You can go ahead and search app, Google queries, perform a calculation, open URL and so on. Hitting alt+space triggers the app from any screen. There are tonnes of possibilities with this app. But my favorite thing about Wox is the third party plugin support. So you can do everything from searching youtube to translating languages right from the launcher.

My favorite one is a plugin called everything and the file search is so smooth that nothing comes close to it. You’ll get instantaneous results as you type. I think Microsoft should offer Everything natively as well. Also read Top 5 Android Keyboard Apps In 2019

This app lets you switch between your bt devices just by using a hotkey. Suppose you have your Bluetooth speaker and Headphones both connected to your pc now you want to switch the audio output from your hf to the speaker, it takes several steps to do that in windows. In sound switch, all I have to do is press ctrl+alt+f11 and you can effortlessly switch between your audio devices.

Sand Boxie

We all go through those times installing a fishy app and later regretting it. mostly the solution is to uninstall the app or at times even format your system. One easy way to fix that is by using a small utility called sand boxie. Consider it like a virtual machine but barely eats any resources.

It creates a virtual environment for you to run apps within it. Now the app cannot harm any files and will have to use resources granted to sand boxie only. You can literally run any app inside sand boxie. It is as simple as right-clicking over the app and choosing sand boxie. If the app creates any mess, you can close sand boxie any time and you are back to good. Also read How To Recover Permanently Deleted Gmail Emails

The app has a few bugs and you can see pop-ups now and then which you can ignore. The free version allows you to run one sand boxie environment at a time. In case you want to run 2 environments simultaneously, you better upgrade, it costs $21 annually.

Chocolatey

Every time you format your computer, you have to install the same set of apps like chrome, VLC etc. Now some of you might be using Ninite for this where you click the programmes you want. It creates one installation file to install all of your selected programmes. Saves you a lot of time.

But chocolatey goes 1 step further than Ninite. It is a package manager where you can not only install apps but also update and even uninstall them. For example, after windows install if you want to install Chrome, Skype, VLC etc. You have to install chocolatey and go to the cmd prompt, right click on it and select run as admin. Then type “choco install chrome” and hit enter and so on. Also read Top 9 Accessories To Buy For Your Laptop

Simple sticky notes

Talking about multitasking, you may forget your passwords and other useful stuff. Noting down things might be a habit you have developed over time. You have an inbuilt sticky note in windows, but really? It has its own problems, and I mean a lot of problems. Switch to the simple sticky notes. The best thing is the hotkeys. You can quickly hide, show, pin, delete, and recover any note using hotkeys.

Sharp keys

Ever wondered what are you gonna do two shift, ctrl and caps lock buttons. Pretty useless, right? So here is an app called sharpkeys which lets you map these keys to a different action. For instance, I’ve mapped my caps key to open the calc and pressing right alt key opens file explorer. This can also be done by editing registry key entry but too many efforts, you know. Sejda PDF Desktop

Editing or converting a pdf is a task in itself. Adobe pdf reader is free but lets you only read a pdf. One way around is to use pdf escape, a free online pdf editor which is good but it requires an internet connection. A better alternative is Sejda PDF desktop. It lets you edit PDF, convert them to a word file, excel sheet and the list of features goes on. You can add texts and fonts in the existing pdf.

Well yes, the app is free without any watermark, but the limit for the free variant is up to 3 pdf with 200 pages each.

Nox not only lets you run Android apps on pc like bluestacks but gives you root access as well. You don’t have to go through the tedious process of rooting ADB Console, superuser, etc, it’s just there. One click and you can use all the root applications. Overall you get a totally different experience of playing a game with a mouse and a huge screen.

Root feature is just an added bonus. It lets you create multiple instances of the emulator and it really helps you out as you don’t have to switch to a rooted app to test the app. The only downside is NOX runs on Android 4, Lollipop (pun intended). Plex Media/Kodi

Oh, you should definitely try this one! If you didn’t already know, plex is a media server app. Simply speaking it lets you serve your music and movies to multiple devices. All you have to do is choose a device to be the server, which obviously should be a computer, as the device needs to be connected to the internet and powered on all the time. Now from this computer, you can host movie, films, photos and this will be available on all your devices.

Plex supports all the devices that you can imagine. The only caviat is that your computer needs to be connected to the internet all the time. You can remove this restriction by getting $5 a month subscription.
